# Connecting a GPS Device to Jitra

> Configure a supported GPS tracker to send location and telemetry data to Jitra.

To connect a physical GPS Device, configure its APN, Jitra server address, protocol port, and transport mode. Then create an Object in Jitra with the same Device ID or IMEI.

## Before You Begin

Make sure the device has power, an active SIM card with mobile data, the correct APN, and a clear view of the sky for its first GPS fix. Keep its IMEI or Device ID available.

Also confirm that the SIM PIN is disabled and that the device supports the mobile network available in its installation area. Many older trackers only support 2G.

## Recommended Jitra Profile

Use these values as a balanced starting point. A model-specific guide may override a setting when its protocol requires it.

| Setting | Recommended value | Why |
| - | - | - |
| Device time zone | UTC / GMT+0 | Jitra's default Device Time Zone is UTC. Using UTC avoids shifted timestamps and daylight-saving ambiguity. |
| Transport | TCP | Provides a persistent, acknowledged connection for supported Jitra listeners. |
| Moving interval | 30 seconds | Balances tracking detail, data usage, and device load. |
| Stopped interval | 300 seconds | Keeps the device visible without sending unnecessary stationary points. |
| Offline buffer | Enabled | Stores records while mobile data is unavailable and sends them after reconnection. |
| Server acknowledgement | Enabled when available | Lets the device confirm that Jitra received a packet. |
| Primary server | Jitra endpoint only | Avoids duplicate or diverted records. Configure a backup server only when one has been provided. |

<Note>
  A 10–15 second moving interval gives more detail but uses more data and power. Battery-powered trackers may require longer intervals and sleep settings. Avoid aggressive sleep modes when you need immediate status updates or remote commands.
</Note>

## Supported Protocols

| Device family | Server | Port | Transport |
| - | - | - | - |
| Teltonika | `gw.jitra.app` | `24115` | TCP |
| Concox | `gw.jitra.app` | `24116` | TCP |
| Sinotrack | `gw.jitra.app` | `24117` | TCP |
| TKStar | `gw.jitra.app` | `24118` | TCP |
| Ruptela | `gw.jitra.app` | `24119` | TCP |
| Queclink | `gw.jitra.app` | `24120` | TCP |
| Fifotrack | `gw.jitra.app` | `24121` | TCP |
| Coban | `gw.jitra.app` | `24122` | TCP |

<Warning>
  Select the guide that matches the device protocol, not only the brand printed on its casing. Some rebranded devices use a different protocol.
</Warning>

## Connection Flow

<Steps>
  <Step title="Prepare the SIM card">
    Activate mobile data and configure the carrier APN, username, and password when required.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure the Jitra endpoint">
    Enter `gw.jitra.app`, the port for your device family, **TCP**, and UTC / GMT+0 in the device configurator or by SMS command.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the Object">
    In Jitra, open **Settings > Objects > New**, choose the exact model, and enter the Device ID or IMEI.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify incoming data">
    Restart the device, allow it to obtain a GPS fix, and confirm its location and last update time on **Tracking**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Commands, passwords, menu names, and supported fields can differ by model and firmware. Use the exact device manual and read the current configuration before changing it. Change the factory SMS password after setup when the device supports it.
